Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs)
Smart, adaptable solutions for internal warehouse transport
Over the years, the industry has introduced a range of terms for flexible transport systems—automated guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and autonomous intelligent vehicles (AIVs), to name a few. Whatever your goals, our Open Shuttles provide a complete solution for flexible, reliable and future-ready internal transport in dynamic warehouse environments.

Self-navigating Robots Automate Material Flow
Our Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) move freely through the warehouse, detect and avoid obstacles in real time and require no additional infrastructure to get started. That means faster deployment, lower integration costs and minimal disruption to existing operations.
AMRs are a good fit when scaling up warehouse automation or optimizing internal transport. They are highly flexible, efficient and reliable. AMRs can handle the heavy lifting, freeing up human workers for higher-value tasks.
AMRs for Container Transport
These intelligent, self-driving robots help automate internal transport processes with minimal disruption. They’re designed to handle a wide range of load carriers, navigate tight warehouse spaces and adapt to changing workflows with ease. When dealing with seasonal peaks or evolving production demands, our AMRs─also known as Open Shuttles─provide the flexibility to scale and the efficiency to stay ahead.
Technical Specs:
- Container transfer from both sides, free access to the loaded containers
- Maximum Speed: up to 5 feet per second (1.5 meters per second)
- Optional Integrated Filter: Loading and unloading height of 21.5"–59" (550 mm–1,500 mm)
- 7 hour battery runtime; 1 hour charging time
- Load-handling device (LHD) with integrated width adjustment
- Upper edge of conveyor: 20"–39" (500 mm–1,000 mm)
- Blue light, side scanners, load unit location sensor
Automated Tasks:
- Transports multiple types of load carriers throughout the facility
- Supplies materials to work stations and production lines
- Assists with order picking and fulfillment processes
- Integrates with automated storage systems such as AeroBot, Evo Shuttles and KNAPP-Store
- Delivers to kanban and flow rack systems
- Handles urgent or specialized transport tasks with speed and precision
AMRs for Pallet Transport
Our Open Shuttle Fork─an AMR designed for pallet transport─is a smart first step toward warehouse automation. These intelligent robots keep Workstations supplied. They connect key areas of the warehouse from goods-in to goods-out, without requiring any structural changes. With minimal impact on existing layouts, they are easy to deploy and scale as needs evolve.
The Open Shuttle Fork stands out for its compact design, fast installation and safety features. It can rotate in place, move laterally and lift pallets using a fully electric lifter─all while navigating safely with 3D obstacle detection. It integrates quickly into a warehouse design and begins transporting pallets without the need for fixed infrastructure. In addition, travel paths and workflows can be updated just as easily.
Technical Specs:
- Transports pallets, stillages, racks, frames and other special load carriers
- Maximum payload: 2,866 pounds (1,300 kgs)
- Maximum dimensions of load: 47.24" x 47.24" x 90.55" (1,200mm x 1,200mm x 2,300mm), larger upon request
- Integrated electric lifter
- Loading and unloading height of 0"–47.24" (0 mm–1,200 mm)
- Automatic pallet detection and natural contour detection
- 8 hour battery run time; 1 hour charging time
- Blue light, 3D obstacle detection, localization scanner
Automated Tasks:
- Automates internal pallet movement across the warehouse
- Deliver materials directly to Workstations and production lines
- Supports mobile picking workflows for greater flexibility
- Integrates with both manual and automated pallet storage systems
- Supplies kanban, flow and pallet rack systems efficiently
- Handles urgent or specialized pallet transport tasks with ease
AMRs for Electronics Transport
While electronics manufacturing is highly automated and digitally advanced, gaining efficiency between production steps remains a key challenge. To stay competitive, electronics companies need smarter ways to connect processes and optimize resource use.
Our Open Shuttles, our autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) for the electronics industry, are designed to do just that. These flexible, self-driving transport robots streamline internal logistics by moving circuit board magazines, reels, containers and tray stacks directly to production lines and automated assembly stations─without the need for fixed infrastructure.
To support these specialized workflows, we have developed a custom load-handling device (LHD) for our AMRs. It features integrated width adjustment, allowing the robot to automatically adapt to different load carrier sizes and center them for secure transport.
The LHD adjusts on the fly between tasks, saving time and reducing manual handling. With a compact footprint, 3D obstacle detection and the ability to rotate in place and move laterally, the Open Shuttle is built for tight spaces and dynamic environments─making it a smart, space-efficient solution for electronics production.
Technical Specs:
- Transports circuit board magazines, reels, containers and tray stacks
- Special load-handling device with width adjustment and clamp
- Can unload from both sides, free access to any containers being carried
- Can transport up to two load carriers at once
- Maximum Speed: up to 5 feet per second (1.5 meters per second)
- Optional Integrated Lifter: Loading and unloading height of 19"–59" (500mm–1,500mm)
- 7 hour battery runtime; 1 hour charging time
- Upper edge of conveyor: 19.69"–39.37" (500mm–1,000mm)
- Blue light, side scanners, load unit location sensor
Automated Tasks:
- Delivers materials to Workstations, setup areas and production lines
- Links production equipment and machinery for seamless flow
- Handles urgent or specialized transport tasks within the facility
Add-on Features to Customize Your AMR
The Open Shuttles can be equipped with a lifter to pick up and drop off loads at various heights. Our Open Shuttle for containers and electronics handles heights from 21.65 to 59.06 inches (550 to 1,500 mm), and our Open Shuttle Fork for pallet transport handles heights from 0 to 47.24 inches (0 to 1,200 mm). They can also transfer loads between different conveyor systems. This added flexibility makes it easier to design and adapt your warehouse processes.
The load-handling device (LHD) can also be equipped with adjustable width functionality, allowing the Open Shuttle to automatically adapt to the size of each load carrier. With both the integrated lifter and width adjustment, the robot can flexibly accommodate varying load heights and widths for efficient, secure transport.
To improve visibility in high-traffic warehouse environments, our Open Shuttles can be equipped with additional indicator lights and advanced sensors. These features enhance safety and awareness while allowing the AMRs to be configured to meet the specific operational needs of your facility.
A Variety of Options to Acquire Your AMR
Open Shuttles can be obtained through several different models. Depending on your specific needs and operational requirements, you have the following options available:
Rental Model A good option for businesses that experience seasonal spikes or fluctuating demand. With this flexible rental model, Open Shuttles can be brought in as needed to support peak periods. These autonomous mobile robots can be quickly integrated into an existing fleet—up and running in just minutes.
Purchase Model This is a good option if a customized solution is not required. It does not require comprehensive training and is a faster ramp up option.
Custom Model A strong choice for operations that want to expand their automation strategy with a fully customized approach. This option delivers a deeply integrated solution that aligns with your processes and supports your entire value chain.
Demo For businesses that are not sure which is the right option, a live on-site demonstration is available. This will demonstrate how the system performs in a specific environment.
“What really convinced us was the shuttle’s functionalities. In comparison with other systems, with the Open Shuttle, we can pick up and deliver at various heights. This is something we needed that only the KNAPP autonomous mobile robot could fulfill. Talking with the KNAPP employees, we also quickly realized how dynamic, flexible and competent the company is. This was very impressive, so we soon had a lot of confidence in the finished solution.”
